Fred Larkin Holt, Jr

Mr. Fred Larkin Holt, Jr., age 96, of Madison, Indiana entered this life on March 6, 1916 in Kingsport, Tennessee. He was the loving son of the late, Fred L. Sr. and Hattie E. Gillenwaters Holt. He was raised in Scottsville, Virginia and graduated high school there. Fred was inducted into the United States Navy on August 5, 1943 in Richmond, Virginia during World War II. He rose to the rank of Machinist Mate First Class and was stationed at Camp Peary, Wim., Virginia. He was honorably discharged on December 13, 1945 at Shoemaker, California, receiving the Asiatic Pacific Theater Ribbon, the American Area Ribbon and American Victory Ribbon. Fred worked early in life as a heavy equipment operator and farm operator. He was united in marriage to Ethel C. Carter and this union was blessed with two daughters and two sons. Fred was employed with Indiana Michigan Power and Light in Lawrenceburg for three years. He then transferred in 1953 to Indiana Kentucky Electric Company in Madison as a yard labor supervisor retiring in 1978. Fred and Ethel were members of Trinity United Methodist Church in downtown Madison. Ethel passed away on May 21, 1996 and Fred later met Lucille Cheever Roberts and they were united in marriage on March 11, 1998. Fred was a member of Madison VFW Post 1969 and enjoyed his friends and fellow veterans there. Fred died Sunday, January 27, 2013 at 2:45 p.m. at the King's Daughters' Hospital in Madison, Indiana.
Fred will be missed by his sons: Robert L. Holt and his wife, Kay of Destin, Florida, Fred L. Holt, III of Louisville, Kentucky; his daughter: Peggy Campbell of Louisville, Kentucky; 9-grandchildren; several great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and other relatives. He was preceded in death by his parents, Fred L. Sr., and Hattie E. Gillenwaters Holt; his wife, Ethel C. Carter Holt died, May 21, 1996; his second wife, Lucille Cheever Holt died, August 24, 2006; his daughter, Carolyn Campbell; his brothers, Elmer Holt, Carl E. Holt, Earl E. Holt and his sister, Vernell Coleman.
Funeral services will be conducted Thursday, January 31, 2013 at 11:00 a.m., by the Rev. Dennis Ingle at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Interment will follow in the Fairmount Cemetery in Madison, Indiana.
Friends may call Thursday from 10:00 a.m. until time of the service at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana.
Final Salute will be conducted by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion at 11:30 a.m. on Thursday at the Morgan & Nay Funeral Centre, 325 Demaree Drive in Madison, Indiana. Full military honors will be conducted at the graveside by Jefferson Post 9, of the American Legion..
