Robert H. Kerten was born in Maastricht, the Netherlands on April 1, 1947 to Gerard Kersten and Jacqueline Janssen Kersten. At the young age of seven he and his family emigrated to the United States in 1954. His brother Gerard "Gerry" Kersten was born on February 25, 1957.
Robert Helenus Kersten passed away at the age of 63, on September 30, 2010 of liver cancer.
Robert met his future wife at a young age while attending
St. Mel's Catholic school in Fair Oaks, California. He later married Kathleen Ann Bates on August 20, 1976.
Their first daughter, Brandi Kay Kersten (Anzaldua) was born on February 23, 1979 in Anniston, Alabama; and passed away
at the age of 34, on April 13, 2013 in Fair Oaks, California in a motorcycle accident.
Their second daughter, Theresa Ann Kersten (Wise) was born May 12, 1982 in Carmichael, California.
Their third daughter, Jacqueline Renee Kersten (Marynik) was born August 12, 1983, also in Carmichael, California.
Robert and Kathleen have two grandsons; Joshua James Danae, born February 28, 1995 and Matthew Jacob Danae, born December 22, 1997- The children of their eldest daughter, Brandi.
