1807: Came with his parents to Adams Co., OH. They took up residence one mile north of West Union, and there he resided until 1866. Brought up an Associate Reform Presbyterian and adhered to that faith all his life.

When the furnaces were opened in Adams County, he did a great deal of work for them in hauling iron to the river and supplies to the furnaces.

1838, 26 Jun: Commissioned by Gov. VANCE as Major in the First Cavalry Regiment, First Brigade, 8th Division of the Ohio Militia.

1839, 1 Aug: Commissioned by Gov. SHANNON as Lt. Col. of the First Cavalry Regiment.

Was an elder of the Associate Reform Presbyterian Church for over 30 years.

1862: Selected Captain of the "Squirrel Hunters" and took his company to Aberdeen to repel MORGAN's raid.

1866: Removed to Sardinia, OH, where he lived until his death.

He was anti-slavery; he was first a Whig and afterwards a Republican; he had a wonderful memory; was fond of telling humorous stories.

He married Mary Baird on 2 Jun 1831 (she was the daughter of James Baird). James and Mary were the parents of:

After Mary died in 1840, he married Isabella (Bryan) Huggins on 7 Nov 1844 in Highland Co, OH.

His parents were Robert Anderson and Elizabeth Dickey both from Cumberland Co, PA. They died in Adams Co, OH.
