Although not fully documented, a researcher in Selma, AL says that Sherman came to Cahaba, Alabama after his brother Henry John Crocheron had come there from Staten Island, NY. He first worked as a "faux painter" and then as a pharmacist in a drug store in Cahaba. Sherman then returned to New York and attended medical school at the University of the City of New York. His graduation is documented in a catalog published in December, 1879 by the Alumni Association of the Medical Department of the University. Sherman died before 3 Jan 1893.
