Parents:
Johannes Joseph Pfeiffer
Maria Katharina Martin
married Oct 14, 1829

The family was from Allendorf, now known as Stadtallendorf.

Siblings:
Maria Pfeiffer, Aug 27 1830 - Mar 3, 1897 Allendorf. Married Wilhelm Fink Aug 5, 1858.

Josef Peter (Peter Joseph) Pfeiffer, born 2am. His uncle, Josef Pfeiffer, unmarried was his Godfather (believe he also immigrated to Frankfort prior to Joe Pete and was a grocer).

Aselm Pfeiffer, Apr 20, 1840 - Nov 22, 1881 Allendorf. Married Euphrosyna Martin Sep 24, 1874 (while they had no children, she later remarried and descendants of these Martin's, the Rhein's, still own the Pfeiffer home in Allendorf).

Amalia Pfieffer, Jul 29, 1847, died in Allendorf. Married Johann Heinrich Martin, brother of Euphronsyna, also on Sep 24, 1874; no children.

Baptized St. Katharina Katholisch Kirche (also served as an altar boy there).

Apprenticed as a shoemaker. In 1850, at age 15, due to political unrest, his parents arranged passage for him to be with family relations in America, Henry Pfeffer (changed to Peffer), his father's half uncle (Elizabeth IN and Frankfort KY). Henry's sons included Peter, Conrad and John C (note Conrad, Joe Pete's first cousin once removed, married Mildred McDonald, sister of his wife Sarah Catherine. One of their children, Sarah Elizabeth "Lizzie" Peffer married John W. Fromang - Elinor Fromang Maloney's and Virginia Fromang Smith's grandparents).

On Jul 30, 1853, Joe Pete made his declaration of citizenship in Franklin Circuit Court and was naturalized by the Federal Court in Lexington on Aug 1, 1855.

Spouse:
Sarah Catherine "Sallie" McDonald
married Apr 15, 1857

The Pfeiffer's originally made their home on Steels Branch, on a 24 acre plot bought for them by Sallie's father Charles. This was the first of three homes, their final place built atop the Owenton Pike Hill, on the left side as you come from town. The home was demolished in the mid1990's when the road was widened.

Joe Pete practiced farming, continued his trade of shoemaking, practiced carpentry and furniture making and was appointed a Franklin County magistrate by KY Gov. Bradley. Although born Catholic, Joe Pete became Baptist and provided funding for the Bethel Baptist Church and purchase of the graveyard in 1901/2.
