During his time in Moscow, he was a member of the Moscow Volunteer Fire Department for 24 years and was captain of Company 6 when he retired. He and Grace received numerous awards for their many years volunteering at Camp Lutherhaven in Coeur d'Alene. He spent many rewarding years delivering Meals on Wheels to seniors and enjoyed being an active member in the Moscow Friendly Neighbors group. He and Grace loved camping and RVing with friends and family and were active members of Concordia Lutheran Church in Pullman. Oliver cared for his beloved wife, Grace, until her passing in 2010.
