Carl Haas about seventeen and Ruby Deas was about fifteen when they married about 1926 in South Carolina.

Their three month premature, five hour old daughter died in 1929.

The 1930 census revealed Carl worked for wages as a twister at the Cotton Mill. They were living in Gastonia, Gaston county, North Carolina. Carl and his parents were born in North Carolina. Ruby and her parents were born in South Carolina. Household members: Carl W. Haas (22), Ruby O. (19) and William E. (4).

The 1940 census revealed Carl was a salary worker in private work. He worked 32 weeks as a twister operator and earned $575. Carl and his two sons were living with his parents in Dallas, Gaston County, North Carolina. He had a rural address in 1935. Carl had a third grade education. Household members: Charley Hass (52), Minnie (53), Vivian (16), Joyce(14), Carl (32), Billie (11) and Charles (8). His brother, Paul and family lived next door.

Carl's pregnant wife, perhaps seeking rest, was not on the 1940 census.

WWII draft card revealed Carl William Haas was born on January 22, 1908 in Belmont, Gaston County, North Carl and wife, Mrs. Ruby Haas resided in Dallas, Gaston County. Carolina. Carl was five feet tall, 116 pounds, grey eyes, brown hair and light complexion.

The 1993 Public records revealed Ruby O. Haas was living at 969 Hamme Ln. in Gastonia, North Carolina.

The Social Security Death Index (S.S.D.I.) revealed the card was issued before 1951 in South Carolina. Ruby D. Haas was born on October 19,1910 and died on June 4, 2008 in Gastonia, Gaston County, North Carolina.

{{GASTONIA - Ruby Deas Haas, 97, of 1910 E. Hemlock, died June 4, 2008, at her residence.

She was born Oct. 19, 1910, in Clover, S.C., daughter of the late Frank Durant and Mattie Belle Wilson Deas.

She was a very active member of the Salvation Army Church for more than 50 years. A former owner of Ru-Bett's Ceramics and N & W Florist, she enjoyed fishing and traveling with her late husband on many memorable outings. A "one of a kind" lady, she would attempt any task, including enrollment in a brick laying class at Gaston College at age 60 and personally constructing a beauty salon for her daughter, Jo Ann.

Survivors are daughters and son-in-law, Betty and Norman Price and Jo Ann Miles, all of Gastonia; 14 grand-children, 37 great-grandchildren, numerous great-great-grandchildren; and nieces and nephews. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family.

In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Carl Haas; sons, Wm. Eugene Haas, Charles Franklin Haas, Cecil Blair Haas and four grandchildren.

The family will receive friends from 9:30 to 10:30 a.m. Monday in the Magnolia Room of Howell Funeral Home, and other times at 1910 Hemlock Street Gastonia. Graveside services will be held 11 a.m. Monday at Gaston Memorial Park with Pastor Billy Joe Shultz officiating.

Pallbearers are Billy Mauney, Shane Chitwood, Lyle Moose, Jason Miles, Danny Miles and Brandon Miles.

Memorials may be made to Hospice of Gaston County, P.O. Box 3984, Gastonia, NC 28054.
