A visitation will be held at 10am with a service to follow at 11am on Mon, February 25, 2013 at St. Innocent's Russian Orthodox Cathedral; 401 Turpin Street, Anchorage, AK 99504. A potluck will be held downstairs following the funeral service.
Pallbearers will include Ryan Groesbeck, Ronald Erickson, Steven Yates, Raymond Thompson, Kevin Beasley, and Lyle Newby. Eleanor will be laid to rest at Ft. Richardson National Cemetery.
Eleanor was born on May 2, 1954 in Perryville, Alaska. Eleanor worked in commercial fishing in Pilot Point through the 80s and in housekeeping at the Super 8 Motel from the early to late 90s. She enjoyed knitting, going to bingo, fishing, and especially spending time with family and friends.
Family states, "Eleanor was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, and friend to all. She loved spending time with her family and friends. She will be missed dearly by all that knew her."
Eleanor is survived by her special friend James Hood; sons Dale Peter Phillips Sr. and Jack Abyo Jr.; daughters Lisa Abyo, JoAnn Abyo, Marlene Abyo, and Patricia Groesbeck; sons-in-law Robert Berg and Ryan Groesbeck; grandsons Dale Phillips Jr., Jordan Beasley, Troy Beach, Joseph Beach, Marton Beach, Kody Abyo, and Devon Erickson; granddaughters Alexandria Beasley, Elizabeth Joe, and Gabrielle Erickson; sisters Annie Wieskamp and Effie Torgrimson; and many great-grandchildren.
Eleanor is preceded in death by her husband Jack Abyo Sr.; parents Ralph and Oleana Phillips; and brothers Alec Phillips, Thomas Shangin, and David Phillips.
