William Cornelis Boer, 70, passed away Feb. 23, 2013, at the Franklin County Medical Center in Preston, Idaho, surrounded by family after a long battle with cancer. Bill was born Sept. 26, 1942, in Salt Lake City, Utah, to Cornelis J. Boer and Catherine L. Lute. He married Janet L. Pitt on Oct. 12, 1962, in Salt Lake City, Utah. They were later sealed in the Logan LDS Temple in 1975.

Bill was proud of his Dutch heritage, a devoted husband and father of nine children and an active member of The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints. He served in many callings including bishop, high council, Young Men, high priests and Sunday School, and truly loved the people he served. Bill's favorite callings were those when he served the elderly or the youth. He was involved in Scouting for more than 40 years and was a recipient of the Silver Beaver Award. He was instrumental in helping many young men develop a love for camping and the outdoors and in obtaining the rank of Eagle Scout.

He is survived by his wife Janet Boer; four sons and five daughters, William C. Jr. (Nancy) Boer of Moorepark, Calif., Shawn (Nathlie) Boer of Star, Idaho, Pamela Snow of Duchesne, Utah, Cindy (Ryan) Smith of Herriman, Utah, Krista Boer of Ririe, Idaho, Bryan (Andrea) Boer of Odgen, Utah, Scott Boer of Salt Lake City, Utah, Amy (Richard) Benson of Wellsville, Utah, and Elissa (Brent) Benson of Logan, Utah; 28 grandchildren; and one great-grandchild with many more to come. He is also survived by one brother, John Boer of Ririe, Idaho, and one sister, Claudia Boer of Salt Lake City, Utah. He was preceded in death by his parents, sister Mary and two brothers, Stephen and Rueben.

Funeral services will be held at noon Saturday, March 2, 2013, at the Riverdale chapel, 3562 N. 1600 East in Preston, Idaho, with Bishop Boyd Bradford conducting. Friends may call from 6 to 8 p.m. Friday at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 S. 800 East in Preston, Idaho, and 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. Saturday at the Riverdale chapel.
