Elizabeth "Elsie" M. Basel, age 99, of 1235 S. 24th St., Manitowoc, died on Friday, Oct. 10, 2008, at Shady Lane Nursing Care Center, Manitowoc.
Elizabeth was born on Sept. 7, 1909, in Whitelaw, daughter of the late Wolfgung and Clara (Grall) Meyer. She married Peter Basel in Norfolk, Va., in 1934. He preceded her in death in 1969. She was a member of St. Michael Catholic Church, St. Michael's Christian Mothers and the Daughters of Isabella. Elizabeth enjoyed spending time with her family, cooking and gardening.

She was preceded in death by her parents; her husband: Peter; five brothers: George, Tony, Hart, Roman and Bert Meyer; and three sisters: Mayme Koerner; Clara Hoyer; and Margaret Berge.
Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. on Saturday, Oct. 18, 2008, at St. Michael Catholic Church, Whitelaw. The Rev. Matt Simonar will officiate the Mass of Christian Burial. Burial of her cremated remains will take place in the parish cemetery.
