"A Genealogy Of The Clark Family" by Henry William Clark, Montgomery, Alabama, 1905, provides the following information:

Judith Clark was born October 15, 1825 and was united in marriage at the residence of her parents in Chambers County, Ala., to Frederick Bowling. Mr. Bowling was born July 10, 1822, and died June 10, 1864. Mr. Bowling's life business was farming. They resided in Chambers County, Ala. Mr. Bowling was in the Confederate States Army and was wounded in battle in Virginia; was in a hospital two months; was sent home and died in ten days after reaching home. In the matter of religious faith he and his wife were Baptist. They were well-to-do people; owned a good farm and about thirty slaves, the latter being emancipated as a result of the war. After the death of Mr. Bowling the widow married John M. Phillips, about 1865. She is still living (1903) and resides at Buckner, Arkansas. She is the only living child of William and Judith Clark.

I, Frederick S. Bowling being about to start to the army of the Confederate States of America and being of sound mind & memory, and believing that it is right to despose of my worldly affairs, do make and constitute this my last Will & Testament (to wit.)

Item 1st. I will my soul to He who gave it, and that all my just debts be paid out of my estate.

Item 2nd. I will that all my estate be kept together for the purpose of educating my children and for their support, and my wife & mother's support. I further will when my daughter Mary E. Bowling marries, that she shall have a negro girl by the name of Ann and her increase, at valuation to be valued by three disinterested men, and if the negro does not amount to two thousand dollars I desire it to be made up to her out of other property, if said negro Ann should die, then I desire that she has the two thousand dollars our of my estate in negros and other property. I also will that James Henry Bowling, William F.S. Bowling and George F. Bowling at the time of coming of age or marrying have two thousand dollars each of negro property as near as suitable, if anything lacking to be made up out of the other property at all times to be valued by three disinterested men.

Item 3rd. I will that my Beloved wife Judith C. Bowling have the management of my estate to act in my stead, during her widowhood, to buy and sell and do everything I could do in taking care of my estate, and educating my children up to the time they arrive of age or marry, and if my beloved wife should marry then I will that my estate be divided between her and my four children equally at all times reserving a support for my old Mother, at the death of my wife if she never marries, I wish my property to be divided equally among my four children. I desire that my wife take charge of all my business without giving bond, to act completely in my stead in the management of my estate.
