Albert "Abie" L. Hager of Charleston, born July 13, 1920, was called home by our Lord and Savior, Jesus Christ, on February 22, 2013.
Abie served in the Navy as an aviation chief radioman (Combat Air Crewmen) during World War II, wherein he received a World War II Victory Medal, Good Conduct Medal and two Campaign Medals. After serving his term during World War II, his love for his country became accompanied by his new loves: Rosemary and bowling. Abie (affectionately known as "Papa") and his wife, Rosemary, were avid bowlers; were members of the American Bowling Association; and eventually went on to become proprietors of their own bowling alley.

He was preceded in death by his wife, Rosemary Hager; son, Curtis "Butch" Ferguson; two brothers, Clarence George "Junior" Hager Jr. and William T. Hager; and sister, Mary Atkinson.

He is survived by his daughters, Judith A. Jones and Patricia McCormick; son, Robert L. Ferguson; niece, Katherine Rice; nine grandchildren, Tracie Jones Burris, Timmy McCormick, Richard McCormick, Curtis and Craig Ferguson, Rosemary Bias and Chrissy, Dennis and Jeanna Ferguson; and seven great-grandchildren.

A graveside service will be held at 2:30 p.m. Friday, March 1, at Cunningham Memorial Park, St. Albans. Friends and family will gather at 2 p.m. Friday at the cemetery.

Arrangements are in the care of Keller Funeral Home, Dunbar.
