J. W. Helmer was a resident of Jones County, Texas for many years. In 1890, he married Minnie Ramsel and to this union were born four children - one son - L.E. Helmer; three daughters - Mrs. A.Q. Smith, Mrs. R.P. Bennett, Mrs. Claude Bennett. His wife died in 1902 in Lueders, Texas. In 1903, Mr. Helmer obeyed the Gospel under the preaching of Silas Scharbor. in 1906, he married Laura Lee Gunnels in Haskell, Texas by Brother Sheppard. To this union were born four daughters - Mr.s George Kizer, Mrs. Eeul Nelson, Mrs. Bill Kizer, Mrs. Adron Wood. Survived by his wife; eight children; 16 grandchildren, brothers and sisters.
