Rites Set For Miners
Donald E. Shoffler
Funeral services for Donald E Shoffler, 703 McKnight St., Gordon, whose body
was recovered from the Kocher Coal Company Porter Tunnel Sunday will be held
Wednesday morning from the Kull Funeral Home, Ashland. Services will be held
at the Simpson United Methodist Church, Gordon. Interment will be in the Christ
Church Cemetery, Fountain Springs.
Mr. Shoffler was born November 18, 1935, in Hegins and resided in Gordon for the
past 22 years. He was the son of Mrs. Anna (Troup) Shoffler and the late Elmer
Shoffler, Valley View.
Mr. Shoffler served with the armed forces during the Korean Conflict and was a
member of Simpson United Methodist Church; F & AM Lodge 294 Ashland, the
Ashland Elks, Citizen's Fire Company, Gordon, and the Independent Miners
Association.
In addition to his mother, he is survived by his widow, the former Gloria Miller;
five children, Colleen, a student at the Ashland Hospital School of Nursing,
Donald, Abby Jane, Todd, and Carey, all students in the North Schuylkill School
District; two sisters, Betty, wife of Willard Becker, of Valley View, and Ellen,
wife of Eugene Topolski, of Ranshaw; two brothers, Robert, of Gordon, and
Calvin, of Tower City.
