Joseph E Alloway, 64, executive director of the State Board of Child Welfare since 1935, died yesterday from a heart attack at his home, 32 Hendrickson Road, Lawrenceville.
Prior to joining the Child Welfare Board, he worked with the old age assistance program, helping set it up between 1932 and 1935. Before that he served as assistant to the state institutions commissioner.
Born in Washington Township, he was a graduate of Rider College and was past president of the New Jersey Welfare Council. He was a member of the Scottish Rite, National Conference of Social Workers, Child Welfare Leauge and the state Welfare and Relief Councils. He is a trustee of Rider College.
Surviving are his wife, Mrs Anna Wilson Alloway; a son Joseph E. Jr. of Germantown; a daughter, Mrs Miles E. Drake of Vineland; a sister Mrs. Waverly Sooy of Bridgeton; three grandchildren and nieces and nephews.
Services will be held Friday at 11 A.M. in the Lawrenceville Presbyterial Church with the Rev. Danna H. Fearon officiating. Interment will be in Lawrenceville Cemetery. Friends may call tomorrow evening at Irvins & Taylor, 77 Prospect Street.
