Born October 16, 1930, in Emporia, Kansas, to John and Mary Ethel (Borror) Bergerhouse, he married Lela Loree Wingate on February 28, 1953 in Emporia. She survives.
Also surviving are four sons, John (Vicki) Bergerhouse, Michael (Debra) Bergerhouse, Thomas (Geri) Bergerhouse and David (Gloria) Bergerhouse; nine grandchildren, Mary, Brad, Allison, Nathan, Sidney, Carly, Nick, Carlos and Eric; three great-grandchildren and two sisters, Patricia (Ken) Feltner and Norma (Tom) Facklam.
He was preceded in death by his parents and his step-mother, Fern Bergerhouse Schmidt.
He was a United States Army veteran of the Korean War. Glen had received both a Bachelor's Degree and a Master's Degree in Business Administration from Kansas State Teachers College. He was a business teacher at Pekin Community High School for 35 years, retiring in 1991. Glen was a member of Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin, the United Methodist Men and YAM Sunday school class. He also was a member of the Tazewell County Retired Teachers Association, the Illinois Education Association, the National Education Association, Celestial City Campers Club, Tazewell County ESDA, and the Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society in Pekin. He was a member of the Pekin Lions Club for over 50 years, where he served in all club offices. Glen enjoyed gardening and was a Ham radio operator.
His funeral will be at 10:30 a.m. Wednesday, March 6, 2013 at Grace United Methodist Church in Pekin. The Rev. Gary L. Ford will officiate. Visitation will be from 5 to 7 p.m. Tuesday at Preston-Hanley Funeral Homes & Crematory in Pekin and also from 9:45 to 10:15 a.m. Wednesday at the church. Burial will be at Glendale Memorial Gardens in Pekin, where military rites will be accorded by the United States Army.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Tazewell County Genealogical & Historical Society, 719 North 11th Street, Pekin, IL 61554 or to Grace United Methodist Church Growing God's Grace Building Fund, 503 North 4th Street, Pekin, IL 61554.
