Bessie E. Shumate McGraw, 88, of Beckley, formerly of Ravencliff WV, died at 6:45 a.m. Saturday in a Beckley hospital after a long illness.

Born May 6, 1896, in Saulsville she was the daughter of the late Daniel and Eliza Shumate.

Mrs. McGraw was a life-long resident of Wyoming and Raleigh County, a member of the Pine Grove Baptist Church, a retired postmaster from Ravencliff Post Office, a member of the Order of the Eastern Star in Pineville, a member of the White Shrine of Bluefield and a member of the Rebecca Lodge in Ravencliff.

She was preceded in death by her husband, John Greely McGraw, December 29, 1960; one sister, Luna Toliver; one brother, Fird Shumate.

Suvivors include three daughters, Mrs. F.L. (June) Gore of Interlachen, Fla., Mrs. R.W. (Virginia) Totten of Lancing, Mich. and Mrs. Frank (Christabelle) Acord of Beckley, one foster-daughter, Mrs. Joe (Diana) Easter of Roanoke, Va.; 10 grandchildren; 11 great grand-children, three great- great grandchildren.

Services will be Monday at 1 p.m. in the Melton Mortuary Chapel with the Pastor Lewis Batchloer officiating. Burial will follow in the Sunset Memorial Park.

Pallbearers will be John Acord, Frank Acord II, Mike Colebank, William Duca, Paul Brooks and Bob Stewart.
