Obituary for Dora Turner White

Dora Turner White, a retired Floyd County Educator, age 94, of the Culpepper Road, (The Rosedale Community) passed away on Thursday morning, February 14, 2013 at a A.G. Rhodes HealthCare of Atlanta.

A native of Austell Georgia, Mrs. White was born on December 8, 1918 the daughter of the late Roland and Fannie Victoria Johnson Turner. Mrs. White was a graduate of the Girls High in Atlanta, GA and was a graduate of Georgia College for Women in Milledgeville, GA. where she received her teaching degree. Prior to her retirement Mrs. White taught school in the Whitfield, Gordon and Floyd County school systems for more than 30 years, which included Floyd County schools, Armuchee, Everett Springs, Coosa, Cave Spring, McHenry, Reeseburg and Midway schools. At the time of her death Mrs. White was the oldest living member of the Floyd Springs United Methodist Church. She was preceded in death by 5 sisters and 2 brothers. Mrs. White was married on April 3, 1943 to Jim Millard White who preceded her in death on April 30, 1976.

Survivors include 2 sons and daughters-in-law, Jim White, Jr. and his wife, Peggy of Fleming Island, Florida and Alan White and his wife, Lee Anne of Cumming, Georgia; 1 grandson, Jim White, III and his wife, Grace of Decatur, Georgia. Nieces and nephews also survive.

Funeral services for Mrs. White will be held on Sunday afternoon, February 17, 2013 at 3 o'clock at the Floyd Springs United Methodist Church with the Reverend Patrick Hopper and the Reverend Ken Kulp officiating. Interment will follow in the family lot of the Floyd Springs United Methodist Church Cemetery. Mrs. White will lie-in-state at the church on Sunday from 2 until 3 o'clock.
The following will serve as active pallbearers, Thomas Davis, Roland Davis, Tony Davis, Clint Bearden, Larry Perkins and Vince Reich.

Mrs. White will remain at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home where the family received friends on Saturday evening at from 5 until 7 o'clock.

The family will receive friends this (Saturday) evening at Fred Talley's Parkview Chapel Funeral Home from 5 until 7 o'clock.

Flowers will be accepted or memorial contribution may be made to the Floyd Springs United Methodist Church, 1869 Floyd Springs Road, Armuchee, Georgia 30105.
