James D. Berge, age 76, of Harmony West Assisted Living, Manitowoc, and formerly of 5636 Marken Road, Valders, died Thursday morning, March 1, 2007, at St. Vincent Hospital, Green Bay, following a long battle with diabetes and kidney
disease.
Jim was born July 22, 1930, in the town of Liberty, a son of the late Earl and Lucille (Johnston) Berge. He attended Cedar Grove Grade School and graduated in 1949 from Valders
High School. Following graduation, he was employed as a
cheese maker at Lake to Lake in Kiel (now Land o' Lakes) until he retired in 1993. He then ran the Berge homestead farm (in the family for 157 years.) Jim loved hunting and fishing, and was an avid fan of all Valders Viking sports. He also played in dartball and bean bag leagues. He was a lifetime member of Faith Lutheran Church, Liberty Hunting Club, and former member of the Rockea Hunting Club.

Funeral services will be held at Faith Lutheran Church, Valders, on Monday, March 5, 2007, at 11 a.m., with visitation at the church starting at 9 a.m. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Melissa Maltman. Burial will follow at Valders West Cemetery. The Christianson & Deja Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Valders, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
The family would like to thank Pastor Melissa for her visits, the communion servers from Faith Lutheran Church,nurses at Holy Family Memorial Dialysis Center for their many years of care, and all the wonderful employees at Harmony West Assisted Living.
