Baxter Harlow Higbee was the son of Isaac Higbee 1778-1863 and Rebecca Phelps 1783-1896 (NOT the son of Isaac Higbee 1789-1862 and Polly Comstock 1785-1862).

Baxter married Olive Little in about 1841. They had one daughter Adelaide Amelia Higbee, born on 13 Feb 1842 in Pompey, Onondaga Co., New York. The three lived in Clay, Onondaga Co., New York per U.S. Census 1850 and NYS Census 1855. According to the U.S. Census 1860, they were living in Bethel, Branch Co., Michigan. Per NYS Census 1865, Baxter was living alone in Syracuse, Onondaga Co., New York and working as a bartender.

It appears that Baxter and Olive divorced sometime between 1860 and 1870 either in Michigan or Illinois and Olive remarried a Mr. Lewis by 1870. O[live] Lewis was enumerated in 1870 as mother-in-law along with her daughter Adelia Michaels and son-in-law A T Michaels and their three children Franklin [Frankie, female, not son], Emma, and Andrew. Olive Lewis was also enumerated in the 1880 Census with her daughter Addie and son-in-law Andrew and granddaughter Frank[ie], age 33. In 1900. I was unable to find further information on Olive at this time.

According to the U.S. Census 1880 in Onondaga, Onondaga Co., New York, Baxter H. Higbee was living with his brother David C. Higbee and his wife Betsey. David died in 1890 and Baxter and his sister-in-law Betsey were still living under the same roof according to the NYS Census 1892 (in Feb 1892). Betsey soon died in April 1892.

Per U.S. Census 1900 Onondaga, Onondaga Co., New York, Baxter was listed as an uncle to Frederick P Higbee:

  • Frederick P Higbee 44 Head
  • Anna S Higbee 44 Wife
  • Irving J Higbee 18 Son
  • Miles D Higbee 14 Son
  • Anna M Higbee 8 Daughter
  • Baxter H Higbee 36 Uncle
  • Robert Michaud 23 Servant

Baxter passed away in 1909 in Syracuse.
