Ethel Lorena Bay passed away Sunday evening, March 3, 2013, at Marquis Vintage Suites-Expressions.

She was born in Butte Oct. 8, 1921, to Donald and Hilda (Falt) DeLong. Ethel lived in Kent, Wash., for a short time as a child, and then returned to Butte where she graduated from Butte High School. She and Lenny Bay were married in Alameda, Calif., on May 30, 1943, while he was serving in the U.S. Navy. They returned to Butte and Ethel worked as a clerk at several neighborhood stores including the Midway Grocery, Power's Grocery and the Merry Jane. Ethel enjoyed cooking, knitting and crocheting afghans for her family.

Ethel was preceded in death by her parents, Donald and Hilda DeLong; her husband, Lenny Bay, who passed away March 30, 2006; her brother, Donald DeLong; brother and sister-in-law, Kenneth and Alma DeLong; infant sister, Marie; her sister and brother-in-law, Dorothy and Raymond West; and a niece and nephew.

Survivors include her daughter and son-in-law, Leah and James Zolynski of Whitehall; son and daughter-in-law, Lenny and Rosita Bay of San Antonio, Texas; six grandchildren, James and Jodi Zolynski, Michelle and Corey Radtke, Hallie and Kelly Scharping, Chris and Colleen Bay, Marcus and Amy Bay and Sairah Bay. Also surviving are eight great-grandchildren.

At her request, cremation has taken place and no services will be conducted.

Ethel's family would like to express their sincere appreciation and thank you to the staff and nurses of Marquis Vintage Suite and Expressions and the caring staff of Rocky Mountain Hospice.

Memorials may be made to a charity of the donor's choice.
