Bernard O'Connor was a lifelong resident of Belleville who was truly dedicated to the betterment of his community. After serving in the United States Marine Corps during the Korean War, he worked for 30 years as plumbing foreman for Essex County. Barney also served as Belleville's plumbing inspector for 20 years and later as plumbing inspector for Glenn Ridge for 6 years. He was a member of the Belleville Historical Society,and former member of the Belleville Kiwanis and Elks Clubs and the Kevin G. Kennedy Civic Association, Barney was also a former member of the Belleville Democratic County Committee. He was a true activist who always kept the best interests of his family and his community close to his heart. Barney passed away on July 17,1997. He left behind four sons Robert, John, Michael,and the late Edward. Two sisters Rosemary Little and the late Kathleen Little. and six grandchildren.
