Verna Alma (Brown) Marino, the loving wife of Alfred Marino of Petaluma, California, married on Aug 23, 1938 at San Rafael, Marin County, California, and daughter of Charlie Marvin Brown and Emma Catherine (Hice) Brown, died on June 22nd, 2000 at Petaluma, Sonoma County, CA. She will be laid to rest at Cypress Hill Memorial Park, Petaluma, CA. She has come a long way since her birth on Nov 23, 1914 in Paris, Logan County, Arkansas. She was one of twelve children born to Charlie Marvin and Emma Catherine Brown. The Brown family moved numerous times during the Depression Era, living in Oklahoma in the early to mid 1930's and then migrating to the Willamette Valley of Oregon and to California in the latter 1930's. Verna chose to move to California in 1937 where she lived with an aunt, which is where she met Alfred, her future husband. They married Aug 23rd, 1938 in San Rafael, Marin County, CA and then went to work together on a dairy ranch in Tomales. They relocated to Petaluma to raise their family, continuing to work at the dairy ranch for the next 10 years until their daughter, Charlotte, was born. Verna loved to sew, which boded her well, as she worked as a seamstress to put her daughter, Charlotte, through college, later on. She also enjoyed her pets and baseball, but family was most important to her. She was able to live long enough to see Charlotte happily married to her husband, Bill Sandberg. She was thrilled to become a grandmother to their two sons, Matthew and Nicholas Sandberg. The Sandberg family lives in Carmichael, California. Her sister, Catherine, married her husband's twin brother, Leo and lives in Sonoma County, CA. Her sister Minnie Tierce and brother Louie Brown both live in Oregon. Another sister, Marie Wilcoxson lives in Bakersfield, CA. She is preceeded in death by siblings Mary Tierce, Frank Brown, Woodrow Brown, Sylvester Brown and Toby Brown. She is survived not only by her daughter and husband, but also by numerous nieces and nephews and many, many friends. She lived to be 85 years of age and died from intestinal ulcers. May she Rest In Peace in Paradise.
