His Veteran's burial record shows he was a member of Co D 21st Rgt PVM with a birth date of 5 Aug 1846. Data were reported by a Charles M. Malin, not a known family member.

Valentine married Rebecca Page Black about 1875, the sister of Ellen Page who married Valentine's brother, Joseph Lester DeHaven.

Valentine and family appear in the 1880 census in Phoenixville and in 1885 in the Philadelphia City Directory at 4130 N 18th Street. His wife and children are on the 1900 census in Philadelphia, she claims to be a widow. Additionally, Rebecca lists herself as the widow of Valentine on the 1895 and later Philadelphia City Directories.
