Gladys M. Hurley, 85, of Long Branch, passed away on Monday, March 4, 2014, at Monmouth Medical Center, Long Branch. She was born in Clifton Springs, NY and lived in Geneva, NY and moved to Long Branch in 1952. Even after all these years in NJ, she was always proud to be a farm girl from upstate NY and loved to tell stories about her life. Gladys was a waitress her whole life and was able to raise Pat and pay off a mortgage on a waitress's salary. She loved her family and friends and was affectionately known in her later years as "The Gladys" or simply "The G." Gladys had a great sense of humor and always had a sharp comeback or a joke to tell. Mrs. Hurley was a parishioner of Our Lady Star of the Sea Church, Christ the King Parish, Long Branch. She worked as a waitress for over 50 years for Bahr's Restaurant, Highlands, NJ.

She was predeceased by her husband, James W. Hurley in 1969. Surviving is her daughter, Pat Hurley, Long Branch; step-son and his wife, James and Marty Smith; a brother, Robert Madigan, Phelps, NY; three sisters, Claire Wheaton and her husband, Leonard of Cohocton, NY, Carol Maslyn, Phelps, NY and Virginia and her husband Rocky LaPrisi, Clifon Springs, NY; two grandsons, Lee Ruggerio and Parker Hurley; and many nieces and nephews and many adopted family members.

Visitation will be from 4 to 8 p.m. Friday, March 8 at the Woolley-Boglioli Funeral Home, 10 Morrell St., Long Branch. A funeral mass will be celebrated 10 a.m. Saturday, March 9 at Star of the Sea R.C. Church, corner of Second and Chelsea Avenue, Long Branch.
