Assistant surgeon for the 75th Ohio Volunteer Infantry. Appointed April 9, 1863. Captured at Gettysburg, Pennsylvania in July of 1863. He was placed in Libby Prison, Richmond, Virginia until his exchange. He returned to his regiment in December of 1863. When he left Libby Prison he smuggled out letters from several members of the 75th who where imprisoned there to their commanding officer. He resigned on July 26, 1864.
