Ruth E Potter, 88, Heartland Health Care Center, Canton, formerly of Alexis, died at 1:15 pm Sunday 21 Aug 1994 in the nursing home.

She was born 24 Feb 1906 in Knox County, the daughter of Oscar and Carrie (McKeever) Threw. She married Fairrus O Potter 6 June 1942 in St. Louis, MO. He died 11 Sept 1969.

Surviving are one brother, Milo Threw, of near Elmwood, and three sisters: Fern Suydam, Elmwood, Amberly LeMaster, Peoria, and Ethel Maxine Threw, Farmington. She was preceded in death by two brothers.

She was a school teacher for Galesburg School District 205, Wataga High School, and Farmington and Elmwood schools. She later was an assistant home advisor for Knox County, retiring in 1965.

She was graduated from Farmington High School, Western Illinois University, and attended nurses training at Michael Reese Hospital, Chicago.

She was a member of Past Worthy Matron of Order of Eastern Star 142, Farmington, and First United Presbyterian Church in Galesburg and Farmington.

Graveside services will be at 11 am Wednesday in Oak Lawn Memorial Gardens, Galesburg, with the Rev. Kermit W Peterson officiating. Visitation will be from 9:30 to 10:30 am Wednesday at Hinchliff Pearson West Chapel Memorials may be made to the Galesburg Rescue Mission.
