Ann L. Davis
Ann Lucille Campbell Davis, 91, of Alhambra, Calif., died on Sunday, March 7, 2004. She was born June 12, 1912 in Omaha, Neb., to Louis Nathaniel Campbell and Marie Augusta
Backhaus, the youngest of three daughters.
In 1930 she moved to the Los Angeles, Calif. area. During World War ll she was employed by Lockheed Aircraft and became the first woman to belong to the Machinists Union.
She was active in the outdoor world and at one time was a hiking leader for the Sierra Club. For many years she was
employed in the office of the Los Angeles Flood Control. Her interests included classical music and river rafting on the Colorado River.
On June 23, 1962 she married Richard Charles Davis. They took a year to travel around the world with just a suitcase apiece and the clothes on their back. They continued with extensive traveling, both abroad and in the United Sates and Alaska.
In 1970 they retired to Ojai on a one-half acre "farm" where they grew lots of fruit, vegetables and roses. In 2001 they moved to a retirement complex in Alhambra.
Mrs. Davis is survived by her son, Richard North of Dallas, Ore., and grandchildren, Teresa North and Steven North; stepdaughters Charlotte Crawford, Barbara Kulow, and Patricia Martin; and seven step-grandchildren.
She was preceded in death by her husband, Richard Charles Davis, in March of 2003.
Graveside services will be held Saturday, March 13, at 2 p.m. at Forest Lawn, 6300 Forest Lawn Drive, Hollywood Hills.
