E. O. Smith, 80, died Tuesday, July 3 at 9:05 a.m. in the Somerset Hospital. His sudden death came as a shock to his family and friends. Burial was in the Brookside Cemetery in Campbellsville. Funeral services were held Thursday, July 5 at 10:00 a.m. in the Mannsville Methodist Church, with the Rev. John Tate in charge. The pallbearers were: Charlie Cox, Wink Shreve, Ira Jones, Lonza Phillips, Parker Phillips, and Floyd Caffee. Mr. Smith, son of the late J. D. Smith and Malinda Curry Smith, was born May 16, 1876 in Adair County. He professed faith in Christ at an early age and was a member of the Merrimac Christian Church. He united in marriage to Miss Manerva Bell Woodrum in 1900. She preceded him in death April 5, 1939. To this union three sons and three daughters were born. Survivors include the children, James Smith, Dave Smith, Mrs. Bruce Dabney, Dolly Smith, all of Taylor County; Dan Smith of Louisville; Mrs. Earl Pickleheimer of Harrison, Tennessee; also one brother and two sisters, Sam Smith of Potomac, Ill., and Mrs. Dona and Gracey Burton both of Adair County. Also survived by thirteen grandchildren, three great-grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.
