Preceding him in death were his parents, Willie B. and Elizabeth Holden Abernathy; brothers, Eli, Willie Earl, and Loys Udean Abernathy; sisters, Helen Miles, Virginia Frasier, Lou Jean Chaney, Mary Ruth Myrick and Louise Mayhan. Survivors are his daughters, Macel "Mae" Bohannon, Phyllis Abernathy and Melissa Readence, all of Florence; brothers, Tommy Lee Abernathy, Greenhill and Gene Ed Abernathy, Cloverdale; sister, Betty Sue Marks, Cloverdale; nine grandchildren and 12 great grandchildren.
Pallbearers will be Randy Marks, Ronnie Marks, Danny Abernathy, James Abernathy, Jimmy Abernathy and Cecil Myrick, Jr.
