Helen (Capriotti) Margolet DeCampli passed away peacefully from this Earth on Sunday, January 10, 2010, at Desert Springs Hospital in Las Vegas, NV, following complications with age-related illness.

Helen was born in Wilmington, DE on August 19, 1922, daughter of the late Philip and Louella (Haggerty) Capriotti. Prior to her first marriage, she was known locally as the lead singer of several big bands in the early 1940's, known as the Greatest Generation. She was a part of it all. After 17 years of a devoted mother and homemaker, she was first employed by Storm Shoes and retired after many years from First National Bank in Wilmington. Following retirement, she became the first telephone operator at the original Capriotti's Sandwich Shop on Union St. in Wilmington. She was loved by all of the patrons with whom she came in contact throughout the years. She was a member of St. Thomas the Apostle Catholic Church, where she gave countless hours of service to the church and the Blessed Virgin Mary Sodality. She moved to Las Vegas 21 years ago and began a whole new life. She became a member of Guardian Angel Catholic Church, and from there developed numerous friendships throughout the city. She loved playing dominoes and bingo with her friends at Montara Meadows, where she resided at the time of her death. If she went to a casino, Deuces Wild was her game, plain and simple. Her greatest love in life was her family. It was the core of her being. Affectionately known by all as the "giver of cards", friends and family were sure to get a card from mom on their birthday. She never forgot anyone on their special day, and we will never forget her.

Helen was predeceased by her oldest daughter, Lynn (28 years old), and her youngest son, Charles (at birth); first husband, Lee Margolet; second husband, Charles "Chipper" DeCampli; sisters, Lucille Kennett and Veronica Pierce; and brother, John Capriotti. She is survived by and will be sadly missed by her daughters, Ann Gwinn and Lois Margolet; son, Alan Margolet; daughter/granddaughter, Cynthia Lynn Cutler; 2 granddaughters, Kelly and Samantha Gwinn; 3 grandsons, John Gwinn, Joseph Haley, and Alexander Margolet; sister, Doris Dickerson; brother, Philip Capriotti; 5 great-grand-daughters; 1 great-grand-son; and 17 nieces and 16 nephews.

Helen's family would like to extend their sincere appreciation to the entire staff of Desert Spring Hospital for the care and compassion given to their mother while she was a patient there, as well as Dr. Michael Schlachter for the competence and care shown to their mother in her final days.

A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated at St. Anthony of Padua Church, 9th and DuPont Sts. in Wilmington, on Monday, January 18 at 12 noon. Entombment will follow in Cathedral Cemetery. Family and friends may call at the CHARLES P. ARCARO FUNERAL HOME, 2309 Lancaster Ave. in Wilmington, on Monday morning, prior to mass, from 9-11:30am. A Memorial Service will be held at a later date in Las Vegas.
