John Finney, 81, longtime Gridley area resident, died Wednesday night at Fremont Medical Center following a lengthy illness.

A native of Astoria, Oregon, born April 13, 1896, he was a retired field representative for the Rice Growers Association of California.

He was a 50 year member of the North Butte Lodge No. 230, F&AM of Gridley, an associated member of RGA and a veteran of World War I.

Surviving are his wife, Evelyn of the Gridley home; a daughter, Mrs. Mary Griffin of Fairoaks; a son, John P. of Lafayette; a sister, Esther Adams of Silverton, Oregon; and four grandchildren.

Funeral services will be 2:00 p.m. today at the Gridley Funeral Chapel with Rev. Wilbur May of Grace Lutheran Church officiating. Graveside rites will be conducted by North Butte Lodge at the Gridley-Biggs Cemetery where interment will take place.

Visitation is welcome at the chapel from 9:00 a.m. today.
