Emily J. Gates, age 81, of 2829 36th St., Two Rivers, died unexpectedly Tuesday, Dec. 12, 2006, at Aurora Medical Center, Two Rivers.

Emily was born Jan. 24, 1925, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Edward and Mary (née Yanda) Novachek. She graduated from Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, with the class of 1943, where she excelled in tennis.

On June 1, 1946, she married Earl Gates in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death on Dec. 26, 1989.

Emily was employed as an office secretary at Carron Net Company for over 20 years, retiring on June 30, 1986. She also worked part-time at Hansen the Florist in Two Rivers. Emily was a former member of the Ladies of Holy Redeemer; the Holy Redeemer Choir; was involved with the Magee School reading program; and enjoyed playing cards, knitting and dining out.

Survivors include three sons and one daughter-in-law: Michael and Sara Gates, Manitowoc; Gary Gates and special friend, Jeannie Lehman, and Bill Gates, all of Two Rivers; three grandchildren: Kelly Gates, Brian (Tiffany) Gates, and Brandon Gates; and one great-grandson: Mason Gates.

Funeral services will be held at 10:30 a.m. Friday, Dec. 15, 2006, at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers. entombment to follow at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc. The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Peter the Fisherman Catholic Church, Two Rivers, on Friday morning, Dec. 15, 2006, from 9:30 a.m. until the time of Mass at 10:30 a.m. There will be no Thursday evening visitation. Deja & Martin Funeral Chapels of Two Rivers, is assisting the Gates family with funeral arrangements.
