CLARENCE "FRITZ" GEHRKE
Clarence "Fritz" Gehrke, 78, of 1114 S. 12th Street, Manitowoc, died Tuesday, May 19, 1992, at Manitowoc Health Care Center.
He was born January 24, 1914, at Merrill, WIs., son of the late Fred and Mathilda Woller Gehrke.
He married the former Evelyn Steinberg on August 26, 1939, at Sheboygan. The couple celebrated their Golden Wedding Anniversary in 1990. Fritz operated the Beacon Lunch on N. 8th Street from 1936 to 1947. Fritz and Eve operated Town and Country Club on South 10th and Viebahn from 1948 to 1954. From 1954 to 1979 he worked in the maintenance service department for the Manitowoc Housing Authority at Custerdale, retiring in 1979. He also served 38 years as a member of the Manitowoc School Patrol Safety Patrol Picnic. Fritz served in the National Guard at Merrill, Wis.; from March 8, 1930 to April 17, 1936. He was a loving husband and father and a caring grandfather. He was always there for us and will be missed by all.
Survivors include his wife, Evelyn of Manitowoc; a daughter and son-in-law, Judith and Ken Novak of Manitowoc; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Butch Gehrke of Madison, Richard Gehrke and Susan Hollett of Madison; two brothers and two sisters-in-law, Harriett and Gilbert Neuser of Manitowoc, Nelson and Thelma Steinberg of Florida; eight grandchildren, Scott and Kurt Hall, Chad Martin, Eric, Kristin, Grant, Kassandra Gehrke, Sally Jo Zank one great granddaughter, Kathryn Rachel Hall.
He was preceded in death by four brothers and a sister.
Funeral services will be at Pfeffer Funeral Home with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum. Friends may call at Pfeffer Funeral Home, 6 p.m. to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday and from 10 a.m. Thursday until the time of service.
