Bertha “Betty” S. Graf, age 99, of Bloomington Lane, VA, died Saturday, December 14, 2002, after a short illness.
She had lived in the Fredericksburg area with her son, Jerry and at area nursing or assisted homes since February 1997. She was the widow of the Rev. Adolph Graf, who preceded her in death in August 1996.
Ms. Graf would have reached her 100th birthday on January 28, 2003. She was born January 28, 1903 in the Town of Rhine near Elkhart Lake, daughter of the late William F. and Sophia (Urban) Wieland. She attended public schools in Elkhart Lake and later worked at the State Bank of Elkhart Lake before her marriage to the Rev. Adolph A. Graf on June 3, 1929.
Following their marriage at Elkhart Lake, the couple served parishes of the United Church of Christ in the Town of Wayne, WI, Tillamook, OR, Hankinson, ND, Belvidere, IL, Forreston, IL, Princeton, IL, and Sheboygan Falls, WI. Following his retirement, the couple lived at Kiel and Reedsville.
Ms. Graf is survived by her two sons, Robert of Vancouver, WA and Gerald of Stafford, VA; daughters-in-law, Jean and Celinda Graf and step-grandchildren, Michael and Kevin Perez. She was preceded in death by four brothers, Harry, Fred, Walter and Andrew Wieland.
Entombment took place at the Knollwood Memorial Park and Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 310., Manitowoc, WI.
A memorial service was held on Saturday, December 28, 2002 at the Saron United Church of Christ in Johnsonville, Sheboygan County, WI with the Revs. Jennifer Dawson and James Martin officiating.
