O. Sherman "Sherm" Grainger, age 95, died on Saturday morning, Feb. 9, 2008, at St. Mary's Home in Manitowoc.

Sherm was born on Aug. 12, 1912, in Manitowoc, son of the late Otis and Lillian (Kurth) Grainger. He attended Lincoln High School, Manitowoc, graduating with the class of 1930. On Sept. 5, 1936, Sherm married the former Sophia Stanul. He served in the U.S. Coast Guard Reserve Auxiliary during War World II, from June of 1943 until September of 1945. Sherm was
employed as a manager at Kelvinator and later with Manitowoc Equipment Works until his retirement at the age of 64. He was also a member of the Elk's Club in Manitowoc for more than 50 years.

Sherm was preceded in death by one brother: Kurth Grainger; one sister and brother-in-law: Betty and Carter L. Davidson; and two sisters-in-law: Helen Young and Hattie Strother.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, at The St. Mary's Home Chapel, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Gerald Foley. Entombment for immediate family only at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth, after the luncheon.

The family will greet relatives and friends on Thursday, Feb. 14, 2008, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

In lieu of flowers, donations to St. Mary's Nursing Home, Attn: Mark McLaughlin, 2005 Division St., Manitowoc, appreciated in Sherman's name.

The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.

The family wishes to extend a special thank you to the staff of all departments at St. Mary's Home for their care, support, and friendship given to Sherm during his stay.
