Sophia F. Grainger, age 96, a resident of St. Mary's Home, Manitowoc, died Monday afternoon, Aug. 24, 2009, at the home.
She was born Jan. 1, 1913, in Two Rivers, daughter of the late Charles and Michaline (Taraskiewicz) Stanul. Sophia was a graduate of Two Rivers High School, Class of 1930. On Sept. 5, 1936, she married O. Sherman Grainger in Manitowoc. He preceded her in death Feb. 9, 2008. Sophia was employed as a secretary for the Manitowoc Police Department for 15 years until her retirement. She was also member of St. Francis of Assisi Parish. Sophia loved her home on the lake, especially her magnolia tree in her backyard. She also enjoyed ceramics in her younger years and baking chocolate chip cookies for everyone she knew.

She was also preceded in death by a two sisters: Harriet Strother and Helen Young and two brothers: Anthony Stanul and Joseph Stanul.
Funeral services will be held at 11:30 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, at the Blessed Angela Chapel at St. Mary's Felician Village, Manitowoc. Officiating at the Mass of Christian Burial will be the Rev. Gerald Foley, with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.
The family will greet relatives and friends at St. Mary's Home Chapel, Manitowoc, from 10:45 a.m. Friday, Aug. 28, 2009, until the time of service at 11:30 a.m. Pfeffer Funeral Home, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
In lieu of flowers, memorials appreciated in Sophia's name to St. Francis of Assisi Parish or St. Mary's Felician Village, attn: Mark McLaughlin, 1635 S. 21st St., Manitowoc, WI 54220.
