At half past one Monday afternoon November 19, 1923 the spirit of Judge Robert W. Haden crossed the divide. He had been ill for several months having suffered a stroke of paralysis a few days after his arrival home from California last Spring.
Judge Haden was born in Kentucky on January 29, 1846 came to Missouri when quite young and lived for a long time in northern part of the state. For several years he was engaged in business at Windsor. He came to Cedar county when El Dorado Springs was a new town. In the early 80's he was elected to the office of probate judge and since that time had made Stockton his home except for the few months spent in California last winter and for a short time he was interested in business at Collins about 25 years ago. He had been in the furniture and hardware business in Stockton and for a number of years conducted the Tennessee Hotel. During E. W. Montgomery's term as county clerk Judge Haden served as deputy and being a man of more than ordinary clerical ability made a good official. He had served the city of Stockton as mayor for two terms and was assistant postmaster for more than eight years prior, to his resignation the first of November or last year.
Judge Haden was a member of the Christian church and led a life consistent to the teachings of the Scripture and was held in high a esteem for his excellent moral character by all who knew him.
Judge Haden had been blessed with an unbroken family circle; his life companion and of their children, five sons and two daughters survive him. The sons are Charles H. of Morrisville, I. Press of Whittier, California, Joe E. of Stockton, James T. of Jerico Springs and Will C of Norwalk, California and the daughters are: Mrs. Mary Brownfield of Stockton and Mrs. Emma Ostendorff of Norwalk, California.
The funeral services were conducted at the Christian church Tuesday afternoon by Elder R. R. Coffey. The remains were laid at rest in the Stockton cemetery.
The people of Stockton extend to the bereaved wife and the children deepest sympathy.
