SHIRLEY M. HALDERSON

Shirley M. Halderson, age 83, of 3400 Yorkshire Lane, Manitowoc, died unexpectedly on Tuesday afternoon, March 18, 2008.

She was born on Sept. 20, 1924, in Manitowoc, daughter of the late Max and Lillian (Knutson) Espen. Shirley was a graduate of Valders High School class of 1943 and then attended Manitowoc Business College. On Aug. 12, 1943, she married Howard R. Halderson in Valders. He preceded her in death on Dec. 14, 2007. Shirley was a member of First Reformed United Church of Christ, where she participated in the Women's Guild and was a founding member of the Snip 'n' Sew Group. She also volunteered her services for many years, coordinating craft activities for residents at Park Lawn Home.

She was preceded in death by three brothers: Maxie, Clarence "Inky" and Robert Espen.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. on Tuesday, March 25, 2008, at First Reformed United Church of Christ, Manitowoc. Officiating at the service will be the Rev. Richard Runge, with entombment at Knollwood Mausoleum, town of Kossuth.

The family will greet relatives and friends at The Pfeffer Funeral Home & Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, from 4 to 8 p.m. on Monday, March 24, 2008. Friends may also call on Tuesday morning at First Reformed United Church of Christ, Manitowoc, from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Shirley dedicated her life to serving and helping others. She was a loving wife to Howard for 63 years, and missed him dearly since his passing in December. They shared many years together as snowbirds in Florida and as summer residents at Pigeon Lake. She was a devoted mother, grandmother and great-grandmother, who cherished every moment with her family. She was a very talented woman who saw every challenge as an opportunity. Not only was she an excellent cook and homemaker, she excelled in crafts, learned to swim at age 65 and became proficient with the computer at age 75. She will be sadly missed by all who knew and loved her.
