Claro Leroy (C.L.) Hansen, age 85, formerly of 2114 Lexington Dr., Manitowoc, died early Sunday morning, December 19, 1999, at North Ridge Medical & Rehabilitation Center. A Memorial Service will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, December 27, 1999, at the Pfeffer Funeral Home.

Claro was born April 7, 1914, in the township of St. Lawrence to the late Herman and Verl Knutson Hansen. Claro received an honorable discharge from the United States Army in 1943. He married Verna Davidson, on May 1, 1943, in Waupaca, Wis.

C.L. joined the Civilian Conservation Corp. at age 17, where he served for several years. After that, he worked for the Waupaca County Highway Dept. until moving to Manitowoc, in 1945. He was then employed by the Gray-Robinson Construction Company, from 1945 until May, 1966, when he left to form his own construction business. Claro owned and operated C.L. Hansen Construction, Inc. from 1966 until 1980. C.L. was also a former co-owner of Hansen Motorcycles, Inc. from 1975 until retirement in 1980. After retirement he continued to help run the family business until illness forced him to give that up in 1988. He was also a member of the International Union of Operating Engineers.

Survivors include his wife, Verna Hansen, Manitowoc; two sons and a daughter-in-law, Mitchell and Sally Hansen, Manitowoc, Marshall Hansen, Manitowoc; four brothers and three sisters-in-law, Kenneth and Norma Hansen, Waupaca, Kermith and Elaine Hansen, Waupaca, Evan and Lana Hansen, Ogdndensburg (sic), Robert Hansen, New London; two sisters and a brother-in-law, Dorothy and Louis Hass, Manawa, Eileen Rosicky, Waupaca; further survived by many nieces, nephews, relatives and friends.

He was preceded in death by his step father, Arthur Hansen; one sister and brother-in-law, Gladys and Erving Arndt, and one brother-in-law, Henry Rosicky.

In lieu of flowers a memorial fund has been established in Claro's name.
The family will greet relatives and friends at the Pfeffer Funeral Home from 9:30 a.m. Monday until the time of service at 11 a.m. The Pfeffer Funeral Home and Cremation Care Center, Manitowoc, is assisting the family with funeral arrangements.
