Wilbert F. Hastreiter, age 90, of Cato, passed away on Sunday, Sept. 2, 2007, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center in Manitowoc.
He was born Aug. 13, 1917, in the town of Cato, son of the late William and Mayme (Hill) Hastreiter. He married Gertrude Braun on June 5, 1940, in Whitelaw. At the onset of World War II he worked as a welder building submarines at the Manitowoc Shipyards. He then served in the United States Army during World War II. After his discharge he worked as a maintenance man for Pauly Cheese Company for more than 30 years. After that he owned and operated his own repair shop in Reedsville. He was a lifetime member of St. Mary Catholic Church in Clarks Mills, where he served as an usher and parish trustee. He was also a member of the Holy Name Society and the Reedsville American Legion Post.

He was preceded in death by his parents, a son-in-law: Frank Foytik; and a brother: Herbert Hastreiter.
Mass of Christian Burial will be held on Wednesday, Sept. 5, 2007, at 10:30 a.m. at St. Michaels Catholic Church in Whitelaw. The Rev. Richard Klingeisen will officiate. Entombment will be at Knollwood Mausoleum in Manitowoc. Friends may call at the Wieting Funeral Home in Reedsville on Tuesday, Sept. 4, 2007, from 4 to 8 p.m. and then at the church on Wednesday from 9:30 a.m. until the time of mass. There will be a parish prayer service at the funeral home Tuesday evening at 7:30 p.m.
