ALFRED HEINZ

Alfred H. Heinz, age 95, a resident of Laurel Grove Assisted Living Center, Manitowoc, died Monday morning, Feb. 5, 2007, at Holy Family Memorial Medical Center, Manitowoc.

Alfred was born July 4, 1911, in Manitowoc, a son of the late Fred and Matilda Ortmeier Heinz and spent some time of his youth in the town of Newton. He attended First German Evangelical Lutheran grade school. On Feb. 18, 1941, Alfred was married to the former Gertrude Zastrow at First German Evangelical Lutheran Church in Manitowoc. Alfred retired in 1976 from the Oil-Rite Corp., where he had worked as a machinist for 27 years.

(Survivors omitted for privacy.)

He was preceded in death by one granddaughter: Rebecca Boldt; and three brothers: Elmer, Allyn and Roland Heinz.

Alfred was a kind, patient and loving husband and father. Dad always had an expression for every occasion, enjoyed a good joke, and always greeted everyone he passed by. He loved to reminisce about the years gone by and was a wealth of information about Manitowoc and the surrounding area. He enjoyed reading his German Bible and read a daily devotion for Mom each day and prayed for his children, grandchildren and great-grandchildren. We will miss him very much but the promise of the Bible is "to be absent from the body is to be present with the Lord" is now a reality for him.

Funeral services will be held at 11 a.m. Monday, Feb. 12, 2007, at Bethany Evangelical Lutheran Church, 3209 Meadow Lane, Manitowoc. The Revs, Robert Kujawski and Waldemar Loescher will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Chapel Mausoleum, Highway 310, Manitowoc.

Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home of Manitowoc on Sunday, Feb. 11, 2007, from 4 to 7 p.m. and on Monday at the church from 10 a.m. until the time of service at 11 a.m.

Alfred's family would like to offer a special thank you to the staff of Laurel Grove Assisted Living Center for the kind care they showed to Alfred the past two and a half years. He really enjoyed his stay there.
