He was born Dec. 3, 1915, in Morgantown, son of the late James A. and Emma Hilpert Burns.
Charles was a staff sergeant in the U.S. Army during WWII and was honorably discharged in 1946.
Charles was a member of Morgantown VFW Post 548.
He was employed by Morgantown Glass and Seneca Glass Factories as a furnace man.
Charles is survived by one daughter, Mary Lou Deaner; and close family friend Mary Ann Tokarz; step daughter, Janet Becke; four brothers, George Burns, Raymond Burns, both of Morgantown, Billy Burns of Ohio, and Maxwell Burns of France; one sister, Phoebe Spitznogle of Morgantown; and two grandchildren, Dennis Becke and Diane Gribble.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife, Freda L. Burns; two brothers, Junior Burns and Thomas Burns; two sisters, Edna Bennett, and Edith Burns; and one grandchild, David Becke.
Friends will be received from 6-8 p.m. Monday, Dec. 6, and from noon until the 1 p.m. service conducted by Evangelists Jim and Carolyn Huffman on Tuesday, Dec. 7, at the Fred L. Jenkins Funeral Home.
Burial will follow at Beverly Hills Memorial Gardens with military graveside rites conducted by Morgantown VFW Post 548.
