BURNS SUFFERED IN WRECK FATAL TO BRANCH MAN
Raymond Schmatz, County’s Eight ’58 Traffic Victim
Raymond Schmatz, 44, of Branch, hospitalized since May 12 with second and third degree burns over 50 percent of his body when his wrecked car burned, died shortly before noon Tuesday at Holy Family Hospital. (accident details omitted)

Funeral services will be at 9:15 a.m. Friday at Mittnacht Funeral Home and at 10 a.m. at St. Michael Catholic church, Whitelaw, the Rev. Francis Rose officiating. Burial will be in the church cemetery.

He was born August 12, 1913 in Branch, son of the late Frank and Anna Baumann Schmatz. He attended St. Michael School in Whitelaw. His father died in 1929 and Mr. Schmatz continued operation of the homestead farm with his mother until her death last year. He then operated the farm alone and never married. He was a member of the Holy Name Society of the church and they Whitelaw Sportsman’s club.

Survivors are four brothers, Joseph of Rt. 1, Manitowoc, Clarence of Manitowoc, Frank of Branch and Harry of New York City; three sisters, Mrs. Edward Tompkins and Mrs. Rudy Gilbertson of Sheboygan and Mrs. Clarence Wittak of Manitowoc. Three brothers preceded him in death.

Friends may call after 2 p.m. on Thursday at the funeral home where the rosary will be recited by the Holy Name Society at 8 p.m.
