STATE COLLEGE – Visitation will be held today for Thomas J. Hanson, 30, of 115 E. Hubler Rd., State College, a former Kane and Smethport resident who died Wednesday in the crash of his twin-engine plane.
Friends may call from 4 to 9 p.m. today at the Koch Funeral Home, State College. Services will be held at 3 p.m. Sunday at the Grace Lutheran Church, here, with the Rev. Henry L. Shaffer officiating. Burial will be in Centre County Memorial Park.
He was born June 15, 1947, in Kane, the son of LaVern E. and Mary Jane Bridge Hanson.
Mr. Hanson was a 1965 graduate of Smethport High School, a 1969 graduate of Indiana University of Pennsylvania.
He was president of the T & D Associates-Diamond Direct distributor of Amway Co. He was on the board of directors of the Security Bank of Athens, Ohio. Mr. Hanson was an elementary teacher in Smethport from 1969-71, and for the last year of his tenure he was head wrestling coach of Smethport High School, and he began the Junior Olympic Wrestling program affiliation with the school.
He was a member of the Assembly of God Church, State College; past member of the Smethport Jaycees; past member of the State College Rotary Club; member of the Aircraft Owners and Pilots Association of Washington, D.C.
Surviving, besides his parents, of Ormsby; are his wife, the former Deborah James, of State College; a son, Aaron James; two daughters, Alicia Marie and Aleta Terese, all at home; a foster daughter, Ly Thi Nguyen; two brothers, Richard L. Hanson of Fountaintown, Ind., and Ronald L. Hanson of Middletown, Conn.; a sister, Mrs. Carol Ann Houlett of Vickery, Ohio.
