LEONA H KAPPELMANN

Mrs. Leona H. Kappelman, age 83, formerly of 6422 Old Hwy. Q, Manitowoc, died Friday, June 1, 2001, at North Ridge Medical and Rehab Center.

Funeral services will be held at 10 a.m. Monday, June 4, 2001, at Rockwood Lutheran Church, Rockwood. The Rev. John R. Holdebrandt will officiate with entombment to follow at Knollwood Mausleum, township of Kossuth.

Leona was born April 18, 1918, at Mishicot, daughter of the late Hugo and Ida Wenholz Ploeckelmann. Leona grew up in Mishicot attending local schools, graduating from Mishicot High School and also Milwaukee School of Nursing as a registered nurse. She worked at Memorial Hospital, Manitowoc, and for a number of years as director of nursing at Family Heritage Nursing Home, Manitowoc.

Leona married Paul C. Kappelman, Sept. 2, 1946, at St. Peter’s Evangelical Lutheran Church, Mishicot. Paul died in April 1994.

She was a member of Rockwood Lutheran Church and served as organist for many years. Leona started Sunday School at the church and was a member of the Rockwood Ladies Bible Hour. She was a reporter for the Rockwood LMS. Leona helped in any capacity where needed at Rockwood Church. She belonged to the Viking Rosemalers and the Pinecrest Historical Society. She was a family genealogist, rosemaler, painter and enjoyed many varied crafts.

Survivors include one son and daughter-in-law, Paul W. and Donna Kappelman of Two Rivers, and their children, Rich and Sandi Kappelman, Craig and Jackie Kappelman, Jennifer Kappelman, Kristin Kappelman; one daughter and son-in-law, Elizabeth and Wayne Otto of Valders, and their children, Karen and Joseph Simon, Mark Otto, Lisa Otto; five great-grandchildren; two great-great-grandchildren; two sisters and one brother-in-law, Ruth and Robert Lahey of Ohio, Marion Emond of Mishicot; two sisters-in-law, Elsie Busse of Manitowoc and Ilse Eatwell of Iowa. Also surviving are nieces, nephews, other relatives and numerous friends.

She was preceded in death by her husband, Paul C. Kappelmann in 1994; one brother, Edgar; an infant brother; six brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law.

Relatives and friends may call at the Reinbold & Pfeffer Family Funeral Home, Manitowoc, from 5 to 8 p.m. Sunday and Monday at the church from 9 a.m. until the time of services. Memorials would be appreciated for Manitowoc Lutheran High School, Rockwood Lutheran Church or the donor’s choice.
