An over-seas veteran of the World War who served in the 137th Infantry, 31st Division; with the American Expeditionary Forces three months; after the Armistice entered the University of Paris and took courses in French law and constitutional government. Born at Rock Gap, Virginia, July 9th, 1891 ; early education received in the public schools of Athens, Mercer County; then attended the Concord State Normal School at that place; still later became a student at West Virginia University, where he took the law course and received the degree of L.L. B. in 1916; elected to the Senate from the Seventh District in 1924; in the session of 1927 served on the following committees: Judiciary, Finance, Counties and Municipal Corporations, Roads and Navigation, Penitentiary, Militia, Mines and Mining, Forfeited, Delinquent and Unappropriated Lands, Forestry and Conservation, Redistricting and Joint Committee on Printing Bills.]
