Born Coffee County, Alabama, June 29, 1844; resided in Florida since 1846; enlisted at McIntosh, Florida, September 1, 1861, in company E, 4th Florida Infantry; Captured at Missionary Ridge, November 25, 1863 and sent to Rock Island Prison, Illinois;
Enlisted in the Union Navy and transferred to the Naval rendezvous at Camp Douglas, January 25, 1864;
Deserted the Union Navy at Boston, Massachusetts;
Claimed that he was on his way back to his Confederate Regiment, and was near Goldsboro, North Carolina, when the war ended; after the war he attempted to claim a Confederate pension, but his enlistment in the Union Navy caused the application to be denied; died December 6, 1918.
