Abijah Drake was born about 1733 in Sutton, Worcester County, Massachusetts. Very good circumstantial evidence leans toward his parents being Daniel Joseph and Bethia Cobb Drake. Abijah married Tabitha Plumley August 4, 1760 in Taunton, Bristol County, Massachusetts by Commissioner James Williams. Their children were: Seth, Francis, Abijah, Paul (#22254328) and Phebe. May 17, 1775 Abijah enlisted into the Revolutionary War from Sutton. He enlisted as a private in Capt. Edward Seagrave's Company, Col. Joseph Read's 20th Regiment and mustered August 1, 1775. He was mustered out September 25, 1775 and awarded a bounty coat December 21, 1775. In 1777, he was a member of Capt. North's Company. April 23, 1779, Abijah purchased some land in Keen, Cheshire County, New Hampshire and the family soon thereafter moved from Sutton. By 1784, Abijah had sold the land in New Hampshire and the family removed to Putney, Windham County, Vermont. Between May 1789 and November 1790, Abijah and Tabitha moved to Chester, Windsor County, Vermont. By 1795, Abijah and Tabitha are living in Townsend, Windham County, Vermont. By 1805, the family is living in Brookline, Windham County, Vermont. In 1806, Tabitha died and Abijah married the widow, Delight Sprague, January 22, 1809 in Hartford, Windsor County, Vermont. In the census for 1810, Abijah and Delight are living in Norwich, Windsor County, Vermont. However, the family is on the "warnings out" list for Norwich. Abijah writes his will November 12, 1814 and dies before April 5, 1819 in Norwich. It's presumed that he's buried in that area. He was eighty six years old when he died.
