His brother, James A. Pyron was killed on May 16, 1863 at the Champion Hill Massacre. William Jasper Pyron was wounded in this same battle, probably knowing his brother had died, he was paroled on the battlefield.

Grave is unmarked. SCV put the memorial marker in the middle of the cemetery. Death date on marker is incorrect.
